Señor Vivo and the Coca Lord was one of the first books covers that I had to design for. This absurdist story of a fictional corrupt country in Latin America is both very exotic and very close to the Bulgarian reader. I constructed the frame of jungle vegetation in many layers in Photoshop in-between which I hid a mix of the tropes from the story. I used Harlean for the title but as it didn’t come in Cyrillic at the time I had the joy of appropriating the missing characters. Unfortunately the book did not sell very well and whilst I still like the work I have done I wonder if I might have gone too poster theatrical and potentially confused the reader, or maybe since the publisher was relatively unknown this might have contributed.
